I am a Cancer Counseling Specialist and have been providing cancer support and psycho-oncology consulting for 10+ years. The emotional and psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis is immense and the affects can linger for months or even years. I work with patients and their families through treatment, recovery and survivorship to reduce the distress that is inherent to the disease. Working to reduce the negative emotional impact of the disease on all areas of the patient's life has been associated with increased positive outcomes and reduced psychological recovery period. The experience of cancer can be isolating and traumatic and therapy requires specialized understanding to provide the best opportunity for healing for clients.I have served as resident therapists for several cancer support agencies and am currently on the faculty of two local colleges. I am a member of the Michigan Cancer Resource Coalition and enjoy keynote speaking to therapists on the clinical implications of psycho-oncology across Michigan.
